Congratulations to Joanne Free, a former member of the squad has qualified for the US Women’s Amateur Championship. The competition is being held at Westchester Country Club, NY, from the 2nd until the 9th of August.

Joanne qualified at Wayzata Country Club, Minnesota at the end of June. Full qualifying results can be found here:

I’m sure all of us at ELLCGA wish Joanne all the best next week.

Thanks to Martyn Huish and Katy McNicoll for running a rules quiz for the squad and committee tonight. The quiz really tested our knowledge of the rules and made everyone realise that it is well worth brushing up on the rules as sometimes it can be to our advantage. Martyn and Katy certainly chose some testing, “advanced” questions for us to answer. Let’s just say some were better, or luckier, than others. You can do a lot of guessing when the questions are multiple choice and true or false.

Who can drop a ball if you are playing a foursomes? Can you lean on your club in a bunker? What is the penalty for a double hit?

After such a long break from competition golf we probably need a quick reminder. The R and A website has an excellent rules section and there is an App that you can download.

On Thursday night we held our first of three Golf Fit Sessions for the Squad with Vharri McMinn.  Vharri put us through our paces incorporating cardio, strengthening and stretching all focused on improving our golf fitness.  The session was suitable for all ages and levels of fitness and a huge success, even Saffy the dog took part!  It was so nice to see everyone and we shall look forward to the next one in February.
