The early starters at Gifford this morning had to put on just about all the clothing they were carrying in their golf bags, the old adage “ne’er cast a clout till May is out” was certainly true today. The stiff “breeze” made conditions difficult and although the sun eventually came through the wind didn’t relent. Everyone had a good time, the most common quote being “well I really enjoyed that, shame about the golf”.
Gifford was in excellent condition and the course was beautifully presented, thanks must go to the greenkeepers for this and thanks also to the catering staff who kept us going throughout the day.
In a very close competition the first three places were tied on a score of 73.5, countback was used to determine the places, these are as follows:
1st Linda Gray and Mhairi Tufail after a countback of the last three holes.
2nd Jane Nelson and Barbara Wallace on a countback over the last 9 holes
3rd Dianne Brown and Audrey Dunnett
4th June Elliot and Brenda Goldstein 75.5
5th Anne McAllister and Heather Neill 76.5
Congratulations to all for excellent scores in such testing conditions.
Linda and Mhairi, Dianne and Audrey, June and Brenda, Anne and Heather have qualified and are available to compete in the Scottish Final at Pollock GC (Glasgow) on Monday 2nd September.
There were no two’s today, a testament to how difficult putting was today.
The two’s money will be donated to the Babe Zaharias competition which raises funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support.

Well done to everyone who played at Gifford today. The elements were not kind and I am feeling much better after a hot bath! Thank you to those ladies who played and marked cards which prevented any 3 balls going out until the 4 pm slot their participation was much appreciated. This meant that the golf was played at a great pace. I have to say the 3 ball at the end may have been slower but from their comments at the end they all had fun. Gifford golf course was in great condition and their greens were lovely too but the wind and rain took its toll on the scores and the players.
Gifford Golf Club were also very welcoming and thank you to Bob for opening early and to Shirley and all her staff for looking after us so well and feeding all the hungry ladies. It was difficult to pull yourself out of the Club after a quick toilet stop where everyone was warm and cosy. The results are as follows:-
