What a delightful way to spend Saturday afternoon. Good food and great company at Haddington golf course. We also had great table decorations and a quiz which involved identifying holes from our East Lothian golf courses, courtesy of our chief organiser Gail McKill. Thanks to all involved in the organisation of today and to the Haddington staff for their hospitality.
Thanks to Mary Lou Watkins for the photos.

The final of the Winter Foursomes will be between Wendy Thummanond and Jan Laing and Liz Miller and Louise Casey. Well done ladies let’s hope that the conditions remain as favourable in March as they have been in February. The final is to be played by the 31st of March.

Updated draw sheet can be found here: Winter-Foursomes update 2018-19

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Haddington on Saturday 2nd March at 12.30. Lunch will be seated at 1pm.

Our East Lothian Ladies Squad team played the annual match against the Gullane Men for the Percy Vere Trophy on Sunday. The matches were all very close and it is with great pleasure that I can say that we won the trophy this year 3 1/2 – 2 1/2. Congratulations to Kay Lannin, Jill McNicoll, Susan Penman, Ann Sewell, Barbara Biggart, Elinor Blair, Grace Crawford, Gail McKill, Mary Lou Watkins, Pam Hall, Hazel Saunders and Karen Fullerton for representing the County. Many thanks to Gullane Golf for inviting us again and hosting us to the golf and a magnificent high tea.

Many of the East Lothian Clubs host open competitions throughout the year and it was thought that these should be publicised on the ELLCGA website.

I have collated information from several websites and this can be found at https://www.ellgolf.co.uk/county-events/open-competitions/

Opens are a great way of playing a variety of clubs in the area, they can be booked online, though the club website or by a printed entry form depending on the club.

There are several sites that can be accessed to help you enter:

Scottish Golf https://www.scottishgolf.org/players/club-members/open-competitions/

Golf Empire https://www.golfempire.co.uk/

Happy Golf https://happygolf.co.uk/

Printed forms can usually also be found at the individual clubs website.

If you would like any other information posted or if I have made any errors please let me know by email to: lesleywood@blueyonder.co.uk

Junior Convenor, Frances Hall sent this photo of the East Lothian Junior League team at Pinehurst.

There are more photos and stories on the ELJL website, it makes for a really interesting read.

The squad started training sessions in December with Martin Hush at his Trackman Studio in Fenton Barnes. We will have another session on the short game shortly.

We have had a match against Lanarkshire and only just lost 3-2. We have a match against the Borders in March.

There are more matches planned against the Gullane and the North Berwick men.

We have some 4sms practice sessions on Kilspindie and Gullane 3. Kilspindie was unfortunately cancelled due to the weather. Thanks to both clubs for allowing us to use the courses.

The emphasis this year is focussing on personal performance and team building. This is all working towards selection for an 8 woman team to represent East Lothian at the Inter County Matches. These will be played at Ladybank GC, Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd July 2019. Your support will be most appreciated.

Some of our players are in the USA on scholarships and therefore not around for most of our training sessions. The selection for the Jamboree Team will be made after the finals of the Spring Meeting in April and the play offs on the 5th and 6th May.

In case you missed it on Facebook and Twitter. Catriona Matthew and the Solheim Cup paid a surprise visit to one of our local golfers.

The ties have to be played by the 25th of November.

The Sime Salver was donated by Anne Sime a past County Captain but it is not a County event but one run by the clubs in East Lothian.  We do have a lot of members who take part in the event however and I am sure that despite the bunkers they all had a great day at Gullane yesterday and very glad that we did not get the weather we had today!

Once again it was a “B” team win. Congratulations to Dirleton Castle.

Gullane were the winners in a closely fought match against Musselburgh. Thank you to Haddington for kindly hosting the event and providing a fine tea for the players and their supporters.

The final of the Carols’ Trophy will take place on neutral territory at Haddington GC on Monday 8th October 2018 The first tee off time is 11am and the “Two Carols”, Carole Ross and Carol Macleod intend to come along and present the trophy in the clubhouse afterwards. It might not be the Ryder Cup but it will be an exciting match for those taking part so why not come along and support them.

The Final will be Gullane Ladies v Musselburgh, the winners of the two divisions. Good luck to all the players and fingers crossed for good weather.

The Winter Foursomes draw is now complete with an entry of 51 couples this year so most of you will have first round ties to play on or before the 28th October so click on the draw below to check out if you are the challenger of one of the lucky ones with a bye.

Let’s hope that the weather is kind to us and that we have plenty of crisp, clear and sunny Autumn and Winter golf days and that we do not get blown away or see our courses disappear under several feet of snow this year.

Lesley Wood will be collecting the results so check the draw sheet for her contact details.
