A lovely day at Longniddry for the Babe Zaharias Competition, although later starters had somewhat windy conditions. A warning from the starters to make sure that you played a provisional ball if your shot went into the rough was essential as many players found out. Most importantly today the money raised for McMillan Cancer Support is over £5000.
This year’s winner of the Babe Zaharias Trophy is Anne Hanson (Turnhouse) with a gross 74.
This year’s winner of the Ultraplast Trophy (for best handicap score) is Kimberley Campbell (Harburn).
Congratulations to both our winners.
A hole in one from Elinor Blair was one of the highlights of the day.

Many thanks to all the clubs who donated 4 balls for the raffle. John McMillan Provost of East Lothian was in attendance to make the draw and present some of the prizes. A very generous donation was received and this will be put towards the prize vouchers.

This is just to give you advance notice that this year’s Babe Zaharias Trophy (in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support) will be played at Longniddry GC on Monday 16 August 2021. Booking opens at 1900 on Tuesday 1 June 2021, via the East Lothian Ladies County Golf Association website. This is an open competition, not restricted to ELLCGA members. The handicap index limit is 30.4.
The entry fee is £25, with all proceeds to Macmillan. Last year we donated nearly £4000 from this event.
Entries will close on 30 June, following which date refunds for withdrawals will not be made.
If you want an opportunity to play Longniddry in advance of the Babe Z, their RNLI Individual Stableford competition (entry fee £12) is on Tuesday 4 May 2021 – see further information in the ‘Read More’ link below.
It is looking likely that we will be able to run counting competitions for the Babe Zaharias and Ultraplast Trophies next Monday, which is good news. However there are a lot of details that we have yet to sort out, and I’m afraid it’s going to mean that you will probably get several emails over the next few days.
I do need to let you know now that we will be required to provide Muirfield with the names of all players and, in the event of this being required for Covid track and trace, contact information for you all. If you are not willing for your contact details to be passed on, I am afraid you will not be able to play. If this is the case, please let me know as soon as possible.
