Royal Musselburgh Gala Dinner

I was very honoured to be invited to the 250th Anniversary Gala Dinner at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club on Friday 5th July 2024. 132 ladies and gentlemen attended the dinner which included past captains of the club, honorary members and invited guests from several Royal Golf Clubs throughout Britain – Royal St George’s, Royal Burgess and the Royal and Ancient to name just a few.

Royal Musselburgh is the 6th oldest club in the world, dating back to at least 1774, this being the first recorded presentation of the Old Club Cup.  The Old Club Cup is still played for today, making it the oldest trophy still competitively played for in the world and although it now generally resides in the golf museum in St Andrews, it was on display at Royal Musselburgh for the Gala Dinner.

Several members of East Lothian Ladies’ County Golf Association attended the dinner including Pamela Hall, Captain of RMGC, Morag Burns, Lady Captain of RMGC and Honorary Member Jane Connachan. After dinner, we enjoyed listening to several speakers including past Captain, Steven Gough, Captain of Royal Burgess GS, Martin Blencowe, R& A Captain, Neil Donaldson and Dr David Purdie.

I would like to thank Pam Hall and all the members of Royal Musselburgh Golf Club for inviting me to the dinner and wish them all the best for their 250th year of celebrations.
