Frances Hall, Junior Secretary, reported that there were sixteen juniors this year an increase over last year. For the first time, we had entered an ELLCGA team in the East Lothian Junior Golf League and the team performed really well in this competition.

The girls’ handicaps have all been reduced this season and they have won a lot of prizes and trophies at their clubs, at junior Opens and in the East of Scotland events. Special mention must go to Ellie Bent winner of the Trophy for most improved golfer and of course to our Junior and Senior Champion Grace Crawford (pictured below with vice president Carole Ross).

Congratulations to all our Junior prize winners this year.

JUNIOR PRIZES

It has been a very successful season for our Juniors and thanks must go to our Junior secretary Frances Hall for all her hard work.

Thank you to Jane McMinn for the photographs of the prize giving.

In her captain’s report Jenni Ray welcomed everyone to the meeting at North Berwick Golf Club and was pleased to announce that Catriona Matthew had agreed that a trophy could be presented in her name. “The Catriona Matthew Team Trophy” will be played for by club teams in the Autumn Meeting. One of the highlights of her captaincy was the commitment and performance of the County Squad at the Jamboree.

The treasurer, Elaine Wolstencraft reported a healthy financial position in the light of which there will be no change to subscriptions or entry fees.  Some changes will be made to on-line booking, competitions will open for booking 4 weeks ahead of the competition and there will be changes to how refunds are processed.

The proposed changes to the constitution were approved including a new Intermediate membership category for 18 to 25 year olds.

The Captain and Vice-Captain were proposed for re-election for 2020.  Remaining officers continued in post.

ELLCGA are delighted to announce a new team competition that will be played for at the Autumn Meeting each year. Honorary member of ELLCGA Catriona Matthew has worked with us in creating the competition in recognition of her captaincy of the successful European Solheim Cup at Gleneagles this year.

‘The Catriona Matthew Team Trophy” will be played for by teams of ELLCGA members from East Lothian Clubs. The clubs will select the teams taking part. Each team will consist of 3 members of the same club, with 2 scores to count, it will not be necessary for team members to play with each other.

Competition rules can be found at this link:

Winterfield Golf Club will have the honour of hosting this new competition on the 10th August 2020.   We hope all clubs will be encouraging their members to enter the meeting so they can compete for this fine trophy. Clubs will be encouraged to pick junior ELLCGA members to be part of their teams. We also are hoping that Catriona may be able to present the trophy.

ELLCGA Junior Girls were invited by Scottish Golf and Kingsbarns Golf Links to participate in the Kingsbarns Girls Classic on Saturday 2nd November.

This exciting event is now in its second year and is a legacy of Kingsbarns hosting the Women’s British Open in 2017. Scottish Golf’s aim is to give developing young female golfers the opportunity to play one of the world’s finest links courses, celebrate women’s golf in Scotland and inspire more young women to fulfil their golfing potential.
Each County in Scotland was invited to nominate two players to take part and they were joined by a Scottish female PGA professional or Ladies European Tour player to play as a team in a Texas Scramble format.

Abby Nisbet and Lucy Hall were selected to represent East Lothian and were joined by Gabrielle MacDonald in their Texas Scramble team. The 3 girls thoroughly enjoyed their day and played very well. 14 counties were represented at the event with people travelling from as far as Dumfries and Inverness to take part in the day.  The weather was very kind – no wind and only a few drops of rain in the last few holes.

The county representatives met for lunch and had an informal discussion on how Scottish Golf can work with us to support girls’ Golf.

Abby, Lucy and Gabrielle played very well as a team and finished in first place. It was a very enjoyable day and Abby and Lucy were delighted to have the opportunity to play such a great golf course!
