Congratulations from all in the County to Alyssa Balding and Neil Henderson on their wedding. Alyssa is one of our squad players and Neil is County member, Linda Henderson’s son. The bride looked lovely. Good wishes for a long and happy marriage.

Congratulations to all the winners so far. Hopefully this update will help players arrange matches, we know how much golf is being played during May and June.

Round 2 to be completed by the 27th of May. Round 3 is to be completed by the 24th June.

Summer Hole & Hole 2019

Kay Lannin

The early starters at Gifford this morning had to put on just about all the clothing they were carrying in their golf bags, the old adage “ne’er cast a clout till May is out” was certainly true today. The stiff “breeze” made conditions difficult and although the sun eventually came through the wind didn’t relent. Everyone had a good time, the most common quote being “well I really enjoyed that, shame about the golf”.

Gifford was in excellent condition and the course was beautifully presented, thanks must go to the greenkeepers for this and thanks also to the catering staff who kept us going throughout the day.

In a very close competition the first three places were tied on a score of 73.5, countback was used to determine the places, these are as follows:

1st Linda Gray and Mhairi Tufail after a countback of the last three holes.

2nd Jane Nelson and Barbara Wallace on a countback over the last 9 holes

3rd Dianne Brown and Audrey Dunnett

4th June Elliot and Brenda Goldstein 75.5

5th Anne McAllister and Heather Neill 76.5

Congratulations to all for excellent scores in such testing conditions.

Linda and Mhairi, Dianne and Audrey, June and Brenda, Anne and Heather have qualified and are available to compete in the Scottish Final at Pollock GC (Glasgow) on Monday 2nd September.

There were no two’s today, a testament to how difficult putting was today.

The two’s money will be donated to the Babe Zaharias competition which raises funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support.

69 junior golfers played in the East Lothian Junior League at Gifford. The winning Team were the East Lothian Girls with a best 4 total of 160, beating Glen by 2 points and West Links by 5.

A great result, well done girls.

At the age of 12 Grace has become our youngest champion taking over the mantle from Clara Young.

Apologies for the previous post that said Jane Connachan had been the youngest winner before Grace in fact Clara became the youngest ever East Lothian champion when she beat Mary Lou Renton (Gifford), the county captain, by 4 and 3 in the afternoon final at Musselburgh Golf Club.

We look forward to enjoying watching Grace’s golf in the years to come.

Congratulations to all the players for a wonderful day of golf. Thank you to all the spectators who came out to support our players.

What a final!! The battle of the generations was won by 12 year old Grace Crawford by 1 hole, although Lesley Johnston really made her fight for it. At one stage Lesley was 4 down but used all her experience to come back to 1 down with a great 3 from the sand at 13. Grace won the next hole narrowly missing an eagle putt. A brilliant birdie at the long, par 4, 15th brought Lesley back to 1 down. After slightly wayward tee shots the players halved the 16th. The last two holes were also halved, giving Grace the victory.

Thanks must go to the caddies for all their efforts today.

The sun finally came out and allowed the presentation to take place outside, a fitting end to a week of great golf at Longniddry. Many thanks to all at Longniddry for their hospitality and friendliness, we were all made to feel very welcome. The course was in excellent condition so a big thank you to the greenkeepers.

At 9am this morning it was raining and the temperature was three degrees, luckily things did improve.

This afternoon’s Championship Final is between Grace Crawford and Lesley Johnston. Grace won her match against Dianne Brown by 3 and 2. Lesley won her match against Mary Lou Watkins by 3 and 1.

The Handicap Quaich final was won by Jing Yun (San San) Little who beat Lesley Wood by 2 and 1. It was a very good match with the lead changing hands several times. San San is a product of Longniddry’s Get in to Golf initiative and has shown how successful this can be.
