We have been looking at the dates for the Summer Hole & Hole Competition. We are very aware of the disruption which will be caused by the Scottish Open and Scottish Ladies Open being played at Gullane in July. Not only will there be restricted access to Gullane for most of July but other courses will be busier or unavailable  due to visitors, giving reciprocal times and closure for qualifying. In addition many members will be volunteering at these events or attending as spectators.

Having looked at the way the dates fall we have been able to give the usual 4 weeks between most rounds but have managed to allocate 6 weeks for the 4th round straddling the period from late June to early August  to help as many of our member take part in this event. The last date for playing each round will be:-

Round 1 –  29th April,

Round 2 – 27th  May,

Round 3 – 24th  June,

Round 4 – 5th August,

Round 5 – 2nd September

Round 6 – 30th September.

Two hardy pairings have battled through to the final of  this year’s Winter Foursomes. Well done to Liz Lonnie and Lorraine White and Dulcie Barns and Marie Young on reaching the final and we wish you all a good match.

The annual match v Gullane GC  for the Percy Vere Trophy took place today on a beautiful sunny winter Sunday. There was some great golf and all the matches were played in good spirit. The score lines in some of the matches did not reflect how closely the holes were contested. We  all enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse afterwards as guests of Gullane.

I regret to report that the trophy was returned to the safekeeping of Gullane GC after their 3.5 – 2.5 win.

12.30  – Keith Anderson (13) and David Hardwick (6) lost to Sue Penman (6) and Pam Hall (8) 1up

12.36  –  Malcolm Robert (5) and Ian Johnston (12) beat Mhairi Tufail (6) and Sharon Lynch (8)  4&3

12.42 –  Stuart Barnes (6) and Davy Saunders (11) beat Mary Lou Watkins (5) and Hazel Saunders (9) 2&1

12.48 –  Paul Craigs (6) and Alan Dickson (15) beat Eleanor Black (8) and Ann Sewell (9)  6&5

12.54 –  Steven Gibb (6) and Kevin Thomson (7) halved with Dawn Young (5) and Dulcie Barnes (6)

13.00 –  Alan J Fraser (7) and Jeff Aitken (7) lost to Jill McNicoll (5) and Dianne Brown (8)  2&1

We are delighted to be taking  The Babe Zaharias Competition to Luffness New this year. Judging by the comments we have had so far, so are the many ladies who have support this competition since it was restored to its original format in 2016 at Gullane.

In a slight change to the arrangements, entries will not be accepted until the 1st June 2108 and entry forms will be available to download from the website shortly before.

We are also pleased to  report that the event is once again being supported by Lindsays, Solicitors and Estate Agents, and the nominated charity is again Macmillan Cancer Support.

Participation by our Juniors last year was disappointing for a variety of reasons, other golf events, other sports, school and family. This year we have re-vamped the events on offer and doing some joint events with Midlothian and East Lothian Junior Golf League. As has been the case for the last few years we also pay the membership fee for all junior girls  who wish to take part in the East of Scotland Girls events. This has produced an exciting programme for this season which also includes some golf coaching.

The Junior League in East Lothian has been going for over thirty years and is very strong. Teams wherever possible are mixed and a number of our girls have featured strongly in the teams over the years.  An all boys team is heading to Pinehurst on the 9th of February thanks to sponsors on both sides of the Atlantic but David Warren of the  East Lothian Junior Golf League would also like to secure a similar type of trip for a girls team and has spoken to ELLCGA about involvement with the plan so you never know! Meantime further information on what the boys are looking forward to and is available by clicking on the link.
