Match v Lanarkshire

The first of our winter friendly matches was played at Strathaven GC yesterday in what proved to be a lovely autumn day. The games were played in great spirit and 4 of the 5 matches went to the 18th. One match finished at the 16th, I am not sure if they had decided that since they were at the clubhouse so there was no point playing up the hill just to come down again or if they hoped to gate crash the Halloween party in the clubhouse and dook for some apples.  While we did not have to trick or treat we did enjoy some very ggod some and sandwiches after the match.

And the result? Yes the team won 31/– 11/2.  A good start to the winter season. Well done everyone.

Sime Salver 2016

Many of our members were among the 48 teams taking part in the Sime Salver at Gifford recently and once again they had great weather for the event. As is so often the case a "B" team won and indeed this was a very good year for the B teams with four of them securing the first 5 places.

Congratulations go to Gullane B for winning the trophy ahead of North Berwick B, North Berwick A, The Glen B and Dirleton Castle B.

East of SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 RESULTS and Champion of Champions

The East of Scotland Championship was played this year at Elie Golf Club on Sunday 9th October. There were four representatives from ELLCGA – Dianne Brown, Kay Lannin, Grace Crawford and Barbara Biggart. It was a beautiful day and excellent conditions. Well done to  our Junior Grace Crawford for an excellent score of 86 on a strange course and for participating in the competition. Sadly our ELLCGA team of Kay Lannin, Dianne Brown and Barbara Biggart was last in the counties but some of our members were participating in the invitational Champion of Champions at Glasgow Gailes. Well done to Joanne Free in coming 3rd in the Competition and also to Dawn Young for achieving the Order of Merit points to be invited.

The former Scottish women's amateur champion won by one stroke from Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) with Karen Ferguson-Snedden (Liberton) third with a 72.

News from Missouri

  • IMG_8487 - Clara Young 2106 Uni Headshot
  • Clara Young, our newest honorary member and currently a 3rd year student at Missouri University has been a key member of the University's golf team since she returned to the States after her summer break spending time with the family in North Berwick and golfing in competitions on this side of the pond. Last week the team won its third consecutive Johnie Imes Invitational. Clara shot a great 3 under 69 on the final day which was critical in the teams 3 point win. This week they took part in the Jim West Challenge hosted in Texas and while the team were further down the leader board Clara was a strong contributor within the 5 player team.

We are sure that there will be much more to report as the year goes on and we all wish Clara every success.
